Hello! Here is a rundown on what we are doing in our classroom!
Science: The Roadrunners are learning about some of the body systems, cells, and senses.
We will cover:
Circulatory System: focusing on the heart
Nervous System: focusing on the brain
Different kinds of cells: skin, nerve, bone, red blood cells, etc...
Senses: Sight, Smell, and Taste: Will learn the different components of the nose, eyes, and mouth.
Social Studies: We started our geography unit, beginning in Oregon. The students are going to learn all about the state we live and and hopefully can bring home some great facts to share!
Reading: I have been given a new reading program this year and I am really excited to begin using it in class. We have been taking a benchmark reading test so I can get a better feel for the level they are at, in preparation of this new program.
Math: We have been doing lots of review in math and working on skip counting, multiplication, and division. For the remainder of the summer I am sending home homework to help reinforce those skills.
We also cover: word problems, place value, rounding, fractions, money, and time, to name a few
I introduced them to some new geometry concepts:
slide (translation), flip(reflection), turn(rotation)
The three different kinds of triangles: isosceles, equilateral, and scalene
Language Arts: We have been reviewing parts of speech, blends and digraphs, and learning phonemes. The Roadrunners love DOL (Daily Oral Language) and have been learning the different editing marks. I am very excited to begin spelling tests! Those will be a part of their weekly homework.
Writing: The Roadrunners are having fun writing quatrain poems and learning about the components of a paragraph: topic sentence, three juicy details, and a closing sentence. I am looking forward to seeing them grow in their writing and challenge them to use "juicy words" to enhance their writing.
No school from August 24th- September 4th!
Have a wonderful weekend! :)
Your Teacher,
Ms Scuderi
